Gamejammin'

I’m studying at a university now. During the winter semester, I heard about a university-organised game jam for which I could earn some credit. As you might have seen on this page before, I have some history working with Godot. So at the start of the summer semester, I talked to my friends, and together, we joined the summer jam. For context, this jam is part of the game development course at MFF CUNI, where I study. The assignment is to develop a game with a specified theme within 48 hours. We can be physically at the Malostranská (MS) building or online, or wherever we want. At the 48-hour deadline, the submissions close (anything submitted after 48 hours doesn’t count). For the week after that, there is a community voting period, where we are encouraged to play each other’s games and vote on them in five categories. ...

Astrocrew, SPC3 and a lot of time

Once again, I find myself watching Stellarium render the frames for the upcoming AstroCrew video and I thought to myself, that I could document this amazing process. So while the engine is rendering at the blistering speed of $10/3$ fps (for most of the scenes, more on that later), let me describe all the stuff I am doing, to make these amazing videos exist. Disclaimer: This is the way I do stuff. There is almost certainly a better way to do this. If you want to use parts of this in your videos, please atleast mention, where you got all of this stuff. Thanks :) ...

Using Godot overlays in production

A few months ago, I’ve posted a blog post here about using Godot for broadcast production as the overlay/graphics generator. While having already used it for real broadcast, I’ve always been the one using these tools. They were a bit buggy, bit unstable and were basically held together by my hopes and dreams (and a lot of work). But since then, I’ve managed to make a software, which is production-ready and kinda user friendly. So without furhter ado, ...

Is Godot *the* tool for overlays?

So, I’ve been broadcasting for the past four years. Not regularily, but often. One thing, that I struggled with from the beginning was the overlays. At first, I was using Java with javax.Swing and luma-keying the black background out in OBS. This worked but was kinda unstable and not really smooth. Swing is not made for realtime graphics, especially not at the Full-HD scale and it was lagging a lot. Even with these issues, I’ve still managed to deploy it for two broadcasts (one and two) and it worked pefectly. ...
